Ogun State Protest Land Grabbing

Four Communities (Ikangba, Agoro, Imodi and Imosan) In Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State Hold Protest Against Land Grabbing

CDWR supports protest and calls on the Gov. Dapo Abiodun-led government and the security agencies to act swiftly and decisively to curb activities of land grabbers across communities in Ogun state

Following a prolonged suffering unleashed by the unhindered, nefarious and debilitating activities of land grabbers, the residents of Ikangba, Agoro, Imodi and Imosan, under the Odogbolu Local Government Area, Ogun state, took to the streets on Monday 27th July, 2026, at Imodi Junction in Ikangba Town. The protest, which was massively attended, was widely reported by the mass media. The residents had hitherto suffered intimidation, harassment, victimization and assaults in the hands of these criminals.

The Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights (CDWR), Ogun State Chapter, supports the protest, and stands in solidarity with the residents of the affected communities. We call on the community people to sustain the protest with a series of mass actions to compel the government to act swiftly and decisively against the activities of land grabbers currently plaguing communities across Ogun state. There should also be  regular town hall meetings to democratically discuss  and decide on steps and for mass mobilisation for every action.

The CDWR also acknowledges the response of the state government, through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), to the protest with the invitation of leaders of the four communities along with the head of the Ogun state Anti-Land Grabbing Task Force for a meeting on Thursday 30th July, 2026. The meeting was meant to get detailed information about the land grabbers’ activities in the communities, with a view to launch investigations to unravel the identity of the criminal elements and their sponsors. We call on the Oluwasina Ogungbade-led Ministry of Justice to fulfil the promise by the government to arrest and prosecute the land grabbers and their collaborators and stop land grabbing activities in the communities and Ogun State in general.

Already, some police officers from the Ogun state Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Igbeba Area Command Ijebu Ode, and Obalende Divisional Police Station have been alleged to aid and abet the land grabbers unleashing terror in those communities.  For instance, Igbeba Area Command has been allegedly giving logistic support to the land grabbers. In fact, the bulldozer being brazenly used to carry out the atrocities including destruction of farms, crops and physical structures is reportedly always escorted by the police officers identified to be serving at the Area Command.

Moreover, some traditional rulers in Ijebu East and Ijebu North East Local Government Areas have been alleged to be the sponsors of the land grabbers.

Therefore, given the alleged involvement and complicity of the police and traditional rulers in the land grabbing, the CDWR demands a thorough and impartial investigation as well as necessary disciplinary measures and prosecution of whoever found culpable.

Lastly, we call on the NLC, TUC, NBA, civil society organizations, socialists and all people of good conscience to lend their voice in support of thousands of inhabitants currently facing threats of eviction by land grabbers in Ikangba, Agoro, Imodi and Imosan communities, and mount pressure on the government to act decisively against the criminal elements.
