COMRADE ABIODUN AREMU (A.K.A. AREMSON): FAREWELL TO A WORKING-CLASS ORGANISER EXTRAORDINAIRE AND REVOLUTIONARY PAR EXCELLENCE
With deep pain and heavy hearts, the Joint Action Front (JAF) mourns the tragic and untimely passing of our beloved comrade, Abiodun Aremu, fondly known as Aremson, on Sunday October 12, 2025.
Comrade Aremson, until his death, was the National Secretary of JAF – a coalition of socialists and left groups which, in the last two decades, has helped organise different struggles against anti-poor capitalist policies and provide solidarity actions for struggles of different groups of workers, artisans, traders and young people. Aremson stood out as a fearless and unwavering fighter for the working class and the downtrodden. A firm believer in working class unity and the need for united front to promote and fight for working class interests. He worked tirelessly towards the building of Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO) which, before becoming defunct, regularly provided shape and direction to the labour movement led struggle against fuel subsidy removal and other anti-poor policies of the successive governments.
As a Marxist, he dedicated his entire life to the struggle for a revolutionary system change and a continuous building of forces to achieve the goal. His loyalty to the cause, his integrity, and his tireless commitment to the emancipation of the oppressed remain exemplary. Never an arm-chair theoretician. He was not only always practically involved in formulation of tactics and strategy for mass struggles but also usually centrally to mass mobilisation and the actual organising of such actions, leading and coordinating from the front.
Even when he suffered a stroke, his revolutionary spirit remained unbroken. Despite the physical toll, Comrade Aremson continued to participate actively in organisation, meetings, and mobilisation efforts for struggles against ruinous capitalist policies of the anti-poor Tinubu government. His resilience and unwavering dedication in the face of adversity are a testament to the depth of his commitment to the struggle.
We have lost more than a comrade, we have lost a revolutionary par excellence. A rare gem. A working-class organiser extraordinaire. A shining light in the movement who gave his all without seeking reward.
Comrade Aremson will be laid to rest at his home opposite Alaka Field Ijako Sugar Bus Stop Lagos Abeokuta Expressway Ogun State on Thursday, 23rd October, 2025.
We call on comrades and allies to join us in bidding farewell to one of the finest revolutionaries and working-class organisers in the history of Nigeria.
Goodbye, Comrade Aremson. You may be gone, but your revolutionary spirit lives on in the struggle for emancipation of the oppressed.
Aluta Continua!
