WE CONDEMN THE ABDUCTION OF THE NATIONAL COORDINATOR OF YRC, MICHAEL ADARAMOYE, IN ABUJA BY THE DSS.
THE YOUTH RIGHTS CAMPAIGN REJECTS PRESIDENT TINUBU SPEECH AS IT FAILS TO ADDRESS DEMANDS
We condemn in totality the abduction of Michael Adaramoye, National Coordinator of YRC by the DSS Abuja, around 2am on Monday August 5. This gestapo-style abduction of activists and dissenting voices by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu led APC government cannot cow us. Rather, it will only embolden our resolve to resist dictatorship in any form or government action that threatens our democracy.
This is a President that has over time painted himself as a fighter for democracy. However, the action of his government has proved that he is a dictator in civilian clothing undermining basic democratic rights to protest. Also, that Tinubu ever considered sending Nigerian army to Niger Republic to unseat a military dictatorship while he has imposed civilian dictatorship on Nigerians is the height of hypocrisy.
We condemn the killing of protesters across the country, use of political thugs and ethnic hatred campaigns by the APC led government to divide the Nigeria youths in a bid to repress or undermine protest.
We equally condemn yesterday’s speech of the President which is ridden in arrogance and disdainful conclusion that never addresses the demands of the protesting youths and working people. The speech reflects insensitivity on the part of the President towards the plights of vast majority of Nigerians.
We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Michael Adaramoye and all arrested protesters, and we call for an immediate public enquiry into the killings of protesters and all culprits brought to book.
