YRC holds Public Symposium on EndSARS Fallout and Growing Repression

About 35 participants attended a Public Symposium organised by the Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM) and the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC) held on Saturday 27 February 2021. This symposium, which held at NUD primary school, Arumoh, Ajegunle, Lagos State, was organised to discuss issues around the #EndSARS protest, Lekki killings, the escalating repression of the Buhari regime and what needs to be done to defeat both attacks on democratic rights and achieve Socialist change.

Speakers at the symposium included Seun Kuti of Movement of the People (MOP), Moshood Oshunfurewa (SPN Lagos State secretary and one of those arrested, detained and tortured on February 13), Zikora Ibeh and H.T. Soweto (DSM member). Comrade Francis Nwapa, YRC National Secretary, gave the opening remarks and also moderated the programme while Comrade Michael Lenin, YRC National Coordinator, gave the closing remarks.

Also in attendance were comrades Omolara Alagbala and Leo, two activists recently arrested and detained in Lagos for organising a walk to commemorate the anniversary of the October 20 killings.

Following what was an educative and inspiring discussion, a sum of N13, 000 in pledges and cash donations was collected as fighting fund. Also 8 copies of the Socialist Democracy (SD) – bi monthly paper of the DSM – were sold.
