CDWR ENGAGES BUA MANAGEMENT OVER RETIREMENT BENEFIT PAYMENT DELAY AND CONTROVERSIAL GRATUITY
CDWR engages BUA Group management over delay in gratuity and controversy in the amount paid to two of the retirees. Some of the retirees approached the CDWR for intervention and CDWR wrote to the management upon which a meeting was fixed for Thursday February 6, 2020.
CDWR leaders (Rufus Olusesan and Chinedu Bosah) and two other retirees (Yahaya Abubakar and David Kadiri) met with BUA management on Thursday February 6, 2020. BUA’s four-man management team was led by Mr Dotun, the Group Human Resources Manager while the retirees and CDWR officials were led by Comrade Rufus Olusesan, the National Chairperson of the Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR).
The management clarified the template used but agreed with CDWR that the retirement process was untidy. The management also agreed to CDWR position on the need to give 6 months’ notice to her retirees, organize training for them and present them with parting gift. While management apologized for the delay in payment, and due to CDWR intervention, Mr Samson Afolabi was paid on February 11, 2020 while Mr Yahaya Abubakar who was supposed to be paid on Friday February 14, 2020 was not paid and the management has renewed its promised to pay on Tuesday Feb 25, 2020 and failed again.
On the issue of pensions, deduction, remittance and compliance of the management, it was agreed to get the facts from Stanbic IBTC Pension, the Pension Fund Administrator (PFA) to ascertain if management actually complied with the Pension Reform Act 2014 (as amended). Based on the CDWR advice, the retirees and workers will approach the PFA to request detailed remittance history and pension savings account statement.
