UAD 6th National Convention
UAD 6th National Convention
The United Action for Democracy held its 6th National Convention in Bauchi on July 13-15, 2007. The National Convention also coincided with the 10th anniversary of the existence of the organisation since it was founded.
The theme of the convention was “strengthening the UAD towards systemic transformation of Nigeria”. Issues of national importance that were discussed were the 2007 elections. The convention notes the unprecedented mass riggings and manipulations that characterized the farce called general elections and called for their cancellations. On Niger Delta crisis, it calls for the unconditional release of the detained leader of MOSSOB, Ralph Uwazurike. On economy, it demands for nationalization of all privatized assets, rejection of the neo-liberal policies of privatization, commercialization, monetization etc., amongst others.
The convention equally elected a new 11 man National Executive Council for the next two years. Amongst those elected were Comrade Tunde Aremu as the Convener, Abdul Yusurf as the Deputy Convener, Taiwo Otitolaye as the General Secretary, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow as Publicity Secretary.
