UI: Authorities Victimise Another Student Activist!
UI: Authorities Victimise Another Student Activist!
The authorities of the University of Ibadan (UI), which are notorious for vitimisation of student activities who lead students to challenge their highhandedness and demand improvement in welfare, have expelled another student activist, Anthony Oni, the immediate past Secretary of the Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM), UI Branch.
Among those that had been victimized and yet to get relief after a period ranging 2 to 5 years are Akeem Lawal, Alayande Stephen, Ola Adeosun, Ayodeji Ali, Wale Eleto, Oluajo Babatunde and Afolabi Oloko. These student activists are victimized for fighting for independent student unionism.
Also a lecturer, Doyin Odebowale, is unjustly victimized for always questioning the anti student, anti-worker position of the management. He has, however, been challenging his victimization in court since 2004.
Anthony Oni, who has completed his academic work, was rusticated for 4 semesters for leading a peaceful students’ protest against power outage and water scarcity on the campus which was not addressed for almost a week by the authorities.
We call for protest letters to the university from individuals and organizations demanding immediate and unconditional reinstatement of all politically victimised student and worker activists.
Send your protest letters to the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar of the University of Ibadan and copy the DSM and the Education Rights Campaign (ERC).
