BUILDING A FORMIDABLE POLITICAL ALTERNATIVE TOWARDS 2007 ELECTIONS

Political Summit of Working People for Power

BUILDING A FORMIDABLE POLITICAL ALTERNATIVE TOWARDS 2007 ELECTIONS

Notwithstanding the proclamation of both local and international observers that the 2003 general elections were massively rigged and manipulated to suit the ruling parties and politicians’ interest in perpetuating themselves in power, these leaders came out to declare millions of votes they allegedly received from the masses. Four weeks after those elections, the ruling PDP regime attacked the masses interest by hiking the fuel price amongst other neo-liberal policies. The Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO) rose up to the occasion by calling general strikes to resist the attack. The poor working masses tumultuously participated in the general strike/protests called by LASCO to resist this unjust measure.

The poor working masses have always risen with a formidable force to fight for their interest when called upon by labour and civil society leadership. Now that the 2007 general elections are around the corner, an opportunity has presented itself to the labouring masses to put in place a government that will implement programmes that will protect and promote their interests.

But while LASCO called out the masses to fight Obasanjo’s government anti-poor policies, there is unfortunately no organisation with LASCO’s pedigree and authority amongst the masses today to rally the masses in a united political platform with an agenda to once and for all wrestle political power from all self-serving politicians.

To this extent, United Action For Democracy (UAD) and Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM) hereby invite you to a summit to strategize on how the working people can capture political power in 2007.
