Ogun Workers’ Congress Agree on Indefinite Strike

On Monday June 27, public sector workers of Ogun State held a congress at the Arcade ground of the Ogun state government secretariat, Oke Mosan Abeokuta. A member of Democratic Socialist Movement and Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights attended in solidarity with the workers.
The congress was well attended. And speaker after speaker, deplored the terrible living and working conditions of the workers, due to 21 months of unremitted salary deductions by the state government, unpaid cooperative contribution, lack of promotion exercise, unpaid pension and gratuities, and above all the recalcitrant attitude of the governor Dapo Abiodun, who frantically refused to meet with workers despite a 7 days grace period.

The workers voted overwhelmingly for an indefinite strike action, commencing yesterday ( 28 June, 2022). They also warned the leaderships of both the TUC and NLC (the negotiating team) not to call off the strike action without returning to the same congress of workers that voted for the commencement of the strike action.
Copies of ‘Socialist Democracy;, the DSM newspaper, were sold at the solidarity price of 200 naira each.
