MUCAS HOSPITAL REFUSED TO PAY RETRENCHED STAFF THEIR BENEFITS

Mucas Hospital, a big hospital in Lagos, has refused to pay its retrenched staff their gratuity ten months after retrenchment. Three of the affected Nurses (Mrs Doherty Janet, Mrs Folashade Jacob and Mrs B.T. Tewogbade) have approached CDWR for intervention.

The retrenchment happened because some of the workers rejected the reduction of their monthly salary from about N55,000 to N30,000. Most private hospitals just like most private schools pay poor wage to their workers and use the army of unemployed persons to drive down wage.

CDWR has agreed to take up the matter on behalf of the three nurses, a letter has been written and delivered to the management to demand the payment of the retrenched staff gratuity, failing which CDWR will take further legal and civil steps to drive home its demand.
