CDWR ENGAGES MABISCO MGT OVER THE VICTIMISATION OF MUSA IBRAHIM

The Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR) is currently intervening in the matter concerning the victimization of Mr Musa Ibrahim, a staff of MABISCO (Mayor Biscuit Company ) Ltd who was placed on indefinite suspension since 2nd of May 2019 for no just cause other than the management’s claim that he insulted his boss. What actually happened was that Mr Musa engaged his immediate boss on a discussion over his overtime that became controversial and the management responded with a punitive letter of indefinite suspension for daring to argue with his boss.

Mr. Musa approached the CDWR for intervention, a letter was written to the management and demands/calls were made to the management to pay entitlements Musa is due for.

Furtherance to this, the management requested a meeting, which held on February 3, 2020 at the company’s premises at Agbara, Ogun State. Comrade Rufus Olusesan and Comrade Chinedu Bosah were the CDWR delegation while Mr Dairo Ayodele (The Human Resources Manager) led a 3-man management delegation.

The meeting started with the management team alleging that Musa has been sacked for misconduct before, something that could not be substantiated. The management went ahead to claim that Musa is a casual having been sacked in 2018 and readmitted without documentation. This letter of sack was never served on Musa neither was there a reengagement letter and CDWR comrades responded that such letter is never tenable while the claim of being a casual is a ruse.

The CDWR also argued that the indefinite suspension that was issued to Musa cannot be substantiated and no administrative opportunity to respond or fair hearing was given to Musa, and on that basis, he is still a staff and will be paid his full salary until the matter is resolved. The CDWR also argued other issues like the pension deductions that were not remitted, unpaid overtime and his reinstatement, unpaid leave bonus and unfair deductions from his salaries. The management agreed to make amends on the pension, agreed to investigate other claims but declined the request for Musa to be reinstated.

The management team requested more time to respond to the whole issue raised and another meeting will be convoked to possibly resolve the issues.
