UPDATE: Abbey Trotsky Released by DSS
UPDATE: Abbey Trotsky Released by DSS
Following local and international online and other protests, the Department of State Service (DSS) has released Abiodun Bamigboye (Abbey Trotsky), the gubernatorial candidate of the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) in Oyo State, from detention.
He was detained for about 6 hours on January 21 at the Ibadan office of the secret police.
He was formally invited for questioning over his leading role last year in organizing thousands of casual workers at Summal Food, Ibadan.
It will be recalled that last October, Abbey Trotsky and the Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights (CDWR) provided leadership for the casual workers who had gone on strike over poor pay and slave conditions. The struggle that lasted for three days won important concessions.
However, while the official reason for his invitation and subsequent detention was the Summal issue, we are not ruling out the link to his campaign messages as the gubernatorial candidate of the SPN which rankle the thieving capitalist ruling elite, especially the APC governing clique of Oyo state.
We thank comrades and supporters locally and internationally for your quick solidarity actions which forced the DSS to Abbey immediately and unconditionally.
