Niyi Adewumi

The Committee for a Workers’ International sends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and comrades of Niyi Adewumi who tragically died on July 14, 2016.

Niyi played an important part in building support for the ideas of socialism and the Democratic Socialist Movement, the supporters of the CWI in Nigeria, for many years.

An activist from his days at Obafemi Awolowo University In 2003 Niyi scored one of the best ever results so far for socialists standing in elections in Nigeria, when standing as a DSM member for the NCP he officially received about 11,000 votes, 14%, standing for Federal House of Representatives in the Ifako-Ijaye federal constituency in Lagos.

He was a steadfast DSM comrade and is warmly remembered by members of the CWI he met on their visits to Nigeria and his own travels to London.

His memory and socialist convictions will continue to be an inspiration to many.
