  • A Special Appeal For Donation
  • The Democratic Socialist Movement appeals to labour, mass organizations and individuals to donate to the Rotimi Ewebiyi Endowment Fund (REEF). They are also invited to the 3rd Anniversary of Rotimi Ewebiyi and the re-launch of the Endowment Fund slated for August 18, 2007.

The REEF was launched in July 2004 for the upkeep and education of the children of Comrade Rotimi Ewebiyi who died on June 2004 of cancer few days after his wife had passed on. Until his death RE, as he was fondly called, was the National Organiser and member of the National Executive Committee of the DSM. For 14 years after graduating from the University of Lagos, he only worked for the DSM as a full timer, and contributed immensely to the growth of the organization and propagation of genuine socialist ideas internationally.

Since the launch of the REEF N872,300.00 has been realized out of which N853,425.69 has been expended on upkeep and education of the children. This gives a balance of N18,874.31 in the account.

Presently, there are vital responsibilities that require urgent intervention of the REEF. The eldest son, Keye has just gained admission to the Lagos State University (LASU) Ojoo. His younger brother, Sanjo is an SS 2 student in a private school in Lagos. With the high cost of education this has placed enormous responsibility on the REEF. This is however in addition to the regular expenses like monthly allowance and others that are associated with upkeep of the children. Also, the house rent has been due for payment since June. N18,874.31 that remains in the account is a far cry from what is required to meet the increasing financial obligation. Indeed, after the payment of this August allowance, literally nothing will remain.

For the donation you could pay to the REEF account with the Zenith Bank or come to our Secretariat. The account name is Rotimi Ewebiyi Endowment Fund. Account number is 6011813118. For further enquiry, contact Lanre Akinola, 08023418962. E-mail [email protected]
