DSS arrests SPN Gubernatorial Candidate in Oyo State
#RELEASE COMRADE ABIODUN BAMIGBOYE (Abbey Trotsky)
Information reaching us is that Comrade Abiodun Bamigboye, gubernatorial candidate of the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) in Oyo State, has been unjustly detained by men of the Department of State Services (DSS).
This detention is clearly an act of desperation by the Nigerian state to intimidate Comrade Abiodun Bamigboye, a. k. a. Abbey Trotsky, because of the radical programmes and alternative that he represents.
It is equally unfortunate that the Nigerian State feels particularly threatened by the lawful political activities of Comrade Abiodun Bamigboye, whose antecedents in the struggle for democracy, economic justice and abolition of poverty are well documented.
It appears that the DSS initially wanted him in connection with the role Abbey and the CDWR played in last October’s strike of thousands of casual workers at Summal Food, Ibadan, which won important concessions. However his detention now may be actually in connection with his campaign against the thieving capitalist elite as gubernatorial candidate of the SPN.
We condemn the action of the DSS and call for the immediate release of Comrade Abiodun Bamigboye. We call on every Nigerian inclined to our campaign in the SPN for a truly democratic Nigeria that serves the mass majority of our people to equally condemn this subversive action of the DSS that is only capable of destroying our nation’s democracy.
We shall be updating you as events unfold.
